planned to use desktop as server---> moot point, still using our web host

I just happened to remember last night that I have a spare computer in the basement, and I am debating on using it to host the website in place of the current web host we are using...if I do use this desktop to host the site...we will have infinitely more power in regards to what we can do with the site...unlimited databases, TRULY unlimited disk space, and limitless possibilities with that we can do all around...the only downside to this possible change is that this desktop is only a dual core Pentium...so that will likely be a bottle neck with the site, as well as our Internet only being 100 Mbps in the connection speed of our router...I am currently installing windows web server 2008 right now, so I will download all of the website data and databases, and then see if I can't get everything reconfigured to work on this local server...so this will have to happen after I get everything installed and configured...so I will keep you all posted on this progress...

I got windows web server 2008 installed, and am currently working on configuring it and the software that is and will be needed for the server to work for us...and although I found out that it is a VERY low clock speed processor...I'm hopeful that it will do the job due to windows web server 2008 being LIGHTNING fast on everything I've done on it...case in point, downloading the websites files was so dang fast it was unbelievable...never seen a web transfer run so dang fast before...so needless to say, it is apparently very light on resources for this lower end desktop based web server...and as of right now, I am having problems installing and configuring my php install...but I "have" the web server part of the local host for the site up and running...I think...once I get home again, ill check that part...if the web server part of the site works, then ill be able to go from there...but ill keep you all posted...hopefully I won't have to muck around with our home router, because I don't have access to do that...but I might have to :/ and that would kind of defeat the purpose of this home server due to my parents not knowing ill be running this pc 24/7/365

So here's hoping I can get it to work without mucking about in the router...

this is a moot point as of now, for the choice has been forced upon me, that it will not be possible for this to happen...  so we shall not be personally hosting the website from here at my house... sadly, this will not be possible, but on the other hand, it has given me yet another hard drive for my beastly desktop...making for 8 hard drives in this beast now...this is just freaking awesome...SEVERE overkill, I know, but still freaking awesome...and the new addition to my beastly desktop is a 250GB sata hdd...it barely fits in my desktop due to having no hdd bays left, and having to use a 5.25" to 3.5" adapter, that quite frankly will not fit in the bay...apparently its just a little bit too wide to fit, so I've had to "hammer" it into the bay, and it does not like that...it is sticking out of the front of my case by like an inch, but hey...ITS IN THERE AT LEAST XD... so I cant complain too awfully much... cause its in the case, its plugged in, and its working...so I cant be too picky...  its working, installed, and usable, so I'm just fine with that...
