You can't escape the prison and powers are deacivated unless someone breaks you out. They will try to seduce you but if you resist, they can't make you do anything... or risk the penalties...

Yep... and you can be broken out of jail to continue fighting. As for why... it's the central tower... it controls the enviroment and is the reason you can't actually die... and delivers the penalties for breaking the rules...
